If we band together, we cannot be stopped.

Spring is here.
This past winter, rather than a season to catch up on some sleep and slip under a blanket to read a good novel, our party has been hard at work.
We’ve accomplished much since Christmas.

We have a set of definitions of roles and duties for our officers, created a Google Worksite, updated our website, have begun our transition to the new system for reporting our political fundraising and expenditures, started a review of policies so that the county party is compliant with law, set out a new messaging framework on social media, and participated in numerous rallies and demonstrations.

Our recent meetings have been well attended. The committee work sessions were spirited and productive. Their activism means we will have a summer full of events and action to show our commitment and support for democratic values.
If we work together, we will succeed.
Our Fundraising and Finance committee has organized and prepared our Spring Fling [link to Events Page] on May 17. They are also beginning to plan for our Fall Brunch. They have secured speakers for these events that Democrats are eager to hear from. Please check our Events calendar on our website for additional details.
Our Party Building and Political Action Committee have completed an important project over the winter. They sent out hundreds of “Thank You” cards to those who helped out the Democratic Party this past year. Many volunteers stepped up to contribute at the One Campaign Office on Griswold last fall. We appreciate the committee’s commitment to thanking these volunteers who made a difference.

The same committee gathered around Peggy Guoins to plan for a summer of action. The leaders of our committees need help in order to have effective events. Please lend Peggy and the committee a hand as they prepare for the summer.
Our leadership has been working with allied groups in St. Clair County over the past three months. The chair has had numerous conversations with leaders of grassroots organizations who share the same values we retain to secure our democracy. One way we have supported these groups is by amplifying their calls for action such as the “Hands Off” rally on April 5th and the 50501 rally on April 19th.

If we stand together, we will prevail.
Because we believe in diversity and collaboration, the county party is organizing a meeting so that allied groups can form an Action for Democracy Network. The network will allow groups to communicate effectively and share information about activities they are planning. Getting the word out about these events will then inform more like-minded citizens about events and actions they can participate in: rallies, demonstrations, voter education and registration. Our goal is to better understand what strengths and limitations all of these groups have when it comes to pursuing action. We will report to our membership in June on the outcome of this Solidarity Summit.

Candidate Recruitment has begun, perhaps the most urgent project for our county party. As a political party, our commitment to democracy is predicated on our ability to convince voters to support our candidates and their platforms. To restore our nation’s rule of law and preserve it going forward, we need to elect Democrats. To elect more Democrats, we have moved forward on a number of fronts. First, we have applied for a Contest Every Race’s grant over the next 18 months to recruit candidates. If we achieve their benchmarks, they will provide us with funding to meet the next set of objectives. We are going to reach out to communities in other parts of St. Clair County and hold meetings with those people who are interested in running for office. We have already received a list with over 100 interested citizens. A list of partisan and nonpartisan races in 2026 is being created so that we help potential candidates identify what office they wish to run for. Finally, we will develop a primer for candidates on how to run for office.
The Chair also is spending time with grassroots organizations in St. Clair County. If your group would like him or one of our leaders to join a meeting, please reach out on our social media, by phone, by email, or at one of our meetings.
Be sure to check out our events calendar [link] regularly. We update it as events arise and don’t want you to miss out. Some of the events that will be added soon are Bluewater Pride on June 29th, our Fall Brunch, and any demonstrations, events, or actions that we find out about or haven’t yet planned.
If we put our hands together, we can fix any problems.
The past week the chair has visited the Lapeer County Democratic Party for their annual spaghetti dinner. He spent time talking with their members and was impressed with the turnout and enthusiasm for action this summer.
After sitting a spell with the LCDP, he drove up to Sandusky to visit with some old friends during the Sanilac County Democratic Party. They have participated in various rallies this spring at Congresswoman McClain’s office as well as those in Bad Axe.
Democrats across the Thumb are ready to find new candidates and start winning elections in 2026. Watch our feed on the website and see what we’re doing.
It’s been said that 80% of winning elections is showing up. The other 20% is the hard work that goes into finding candidates, turning out voters, and convincing them to vote for Democrats. Let’s show up.
